Data on Technology Standards, Industry Consortia, and Innovation
Databases on Technology Standards and Standard Setting Organizations
The Searle Center has created a comprehensive database on technology standards. We have collaborated with Qualcomm, Perinorm, and IPLytics in this project.
The database consists of three related datasets that are described in three different papers:
- Technology Standards and Standard Setting Organizations: Introduction to the Searle Center Database (UPDATED 2/6/18)
Justus Baron, Research Associate, Innovation Economics Project, Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
Daniel F. Spulber, Elinor Hobbs Distinguished Professor of International Business, Kellogg School of Management and Research Director, Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth - Unpacking 3GPP Standards (UPDATED 2/17/18)
Justus Baron, Research Associate, Innovation Economics Project, Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
Kirti Gupta, Director, Economic Strategy, Qualcomm Incorporated - Mapping Standards to Patents using Declarations of Standard-Essential Patents (UPDATED 2/17/18)
Justus Baron, Research Associate, Innovation Economics Project, Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law
Tim Pohlmann, Mines ParisTech and Technische Universität Berlin

Codes to Compute Standard Counts Time Series (.zip file)
These codes and additional datasets can be used to compute different standard counts time series for US and international standards. Detailed information on the methodology can be found in the ‘Read_me’ file, as well as in the following paper:
- Technological Standardization, Endogenous Productivity, and Transitory Dynamics (October 2019)
Justus Baron (Northwestern University)
Julia Schmidt (Banque de France)
In addition, we continue to provide access to data on technology standards, industry consortia, patent pools, and innovation below.
