Women's Leadership
Leadership Academy Intensive for Female Law Students
The Intensive targets female law students and is done in partnership with Ms. JD. It features impactful leadership workshops, inspiring panel discussions networking events, and empowering keynote conversations to support female law students to develop their authentic voice, enhance their negotiation skills, and learn tips for being the most effective leader possible.
In March 2024, the Intensive had 43 participants from over 20 law schools all over the US, including DePaul University, Indiana University, Iowa Law, Loyola University, McGeorge School of Law, Michigan State, Nebraska Law, Northwestern, Penn State, Southern University, Southwestern Law, George Washington University, University of Arkansas, University of Cincinnati, University of Pittsburgh, University of San Francisco, and University of South Dakota.
The sessions and conversations helped the students to understand authentic leadership, articulate their value, design their career path, improve their communication skills using female protagonists from Shakespeare’s plays and develop a personal brand. More information on this year’s Intensive can be found here.
Angelise Melendez, a first-generation Hispanic student from NU Law had this to say about her experience:
“To kick off spring break, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Leadership Academy Intensive hosted by my school's Gender Equity Initiative. The Academy provided me with the knowledge needed to navigate being a woman of leadership in the legal profession. This topic has not been discussed enough, and I am honored to have this foundation brought to me during my 1L year! Thank you to all who made this happen, and I am glad to have met a network of powerful women from across the country”
