Video Game Law

Video gaming is the largest and fastest growing segment of the entertainment industry, fueled by new devices, new distribution systems, and tie-ins to other entertainment related industries. Lawyers practicing in this area face unique issues that we will explore in this course, including those related to intellectual property, contracts and licensing, media regulation, game monetization and NFTs, privacy and data security, and generative AI surrounding user-generated content. More generally, this course will provide students with the foundational knowledge, skills, and strategic frameworks to analyze the law of video gaming. The course will engage students through readings, guest speakers, case studies, and group projects. Throughout the semester, the class will work on a final group project in which students will demonstrate their mastery of the subject and enhance their presentation skills.
