Admissions Interviews

Our Interview Program

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law has the longest standing admissions interviewing program of any law school in the country.

Interviews are optional and provide the Admissions Committee with additional information about the applicant's interpersonal and communication skills, maturity, and motivation. These conversations also help us to preserve the strong sense of community and cooperative culture for which we are known, while providing you with the opportunity to learn more about Northwestern Law.

We offer three interview platforms for our JD applicants:  On-Campus, Off-Campus, and Online Video.  All interviews are weighed equally by the Admissions Committee in our evaluation.

JD applicants will select an interview type within the application form. Within a specified time period, you will receive further guidance from the Northwestern Law Admissions Office.

To provide you with guidance on the best interview platform for your schedule and preferences, here are brief descriptions of our interview opportunities:

On-Campus Interviews (JD Applicants only)

If you join us for our on-campus admission interviewing program, you will complete your interview with a current student, an alumnus, or an admissions officer. Our on-campus interviews take place on select Saturdays during the Fall and Winter*.  If you select a 'Super Saturday' interview date within your JD application, we will provide you with further instructions for selecting an interview time. Whether you are traveling across Chicago or across the country, we want you to have a rewarding visit. To that end, we offer student-guided tours of the Law School on these Super Saturday interview days, along with coffee hours with current students so you may experience the Northwestern Law Difference firsthand.  If you observe the Sabbath, we'll arrange a weekday interview for you.

We will also host on-campus interviews on Mondays and Fridays during the first two weeks of December 2019.  Because of our reading period and final examinations, we will not be able to provide tours of the Law School on the same days of these particular on-campus interviews.

Off-Campus Interviews (JD Applicants only)

Our long-standing off-campus interviewing program is administered by our dedicated alumni throughout the United States.  This is a terrific way to build your application, meet an alumnus who is practicing in your current market, and connect with Northwestern Law.  Should you select the off-campus interview option within your JD application, you will also pick a market within a drop-down menu.  You will receive guidance from the Admissions Office soon thereafter.

The off-campus interviewing program will close on Friday, November 15, 2019.  We will strive to fulfill all requests made prior to the 15th.  If we are not able to assign an interviewer to you and/or your particular market is closed at the time of your application, we will invite you to participate in an Online Video Interview.

Online Video Interviews (JD and LLM** Applicants)

If traveling to Chicago or meeting with an alumnus in your area aren't options for you, we are delighted to offer the online video interview platform to our applicants.  You will view questions that have been written and filmed by members of the Northwestern Law community.  In turn, you will have a set amount of time to record your answers.  Your online video interview will be incorporated with your application and the Admissions Committee will view your responses as we consider your candidacy. Our FAQ page provides answers to questions we typically receive about the video interview platform here

* We will host our final Super Saturday on February 15th.  While this is our J.D. application deadline, you may still interview on this date as long as you have previously submitted your application form.

** LLM applicants will have the sole option of completing the Online Video Interview.  To request this interview, you will opt-in through your application.  Soon thereafter, you will receive instructions and guidance from the Admissions Office for completing your Online Video Interview.
