Request Transcripts

 

Official Transcripts

An official transcript bears the University seal and a signature certifying its authenticity. Official transcripts are sensitive documents and their release requires consent. The University does not issue unofficial transcripts. For information regarding the law governing the disclosure of student records, please visit the University's Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) page.

Transcript Restrictions

Transcript requests are not accepted via email or by telephone. We are unable to issue refunds after an order has been submitted.  Transcripts cannot be faxed, and with the exception of eTranscripts, cannot be emailed.

Request a Transcript

  • Current Students

    Access the online transcript request through CAESAR. Transcript requests must be paid for with a credit card.
  • Former Students (1990 – later)

    Access the online transcript request through Parchment. The site will walk you through placing an order, including delivery options and fees. Order updates will be emailed to you, and you can check your order status and history. Your credit card will be charged once your order has been processed and completed.
  • Former Students (1989 – earlier)

    Complete the Transcript Request Form to request a paper transcript. Cash and check payments are accepted. Please make the check payment to Northwestern University.  Deliver the Transcript Request Form and payment to:

eTranscripts

Certified eTranscript delivery is available for students who attended the Law School after July 2005. It is the responsibility of the transcript requestor to verify recipients accept electronic transcripts before placing an order.

Transcripts are delivered electronically within hours, except during times of scheduled maintenance or planned system outages. eTranscripts are available for download for 30 days from the date of issue. A maximum of five downloads are available per eTranscript ordered.

eTranscripts are available for $8 per copy, payable by credit card.

Paper Transcripts

Paper transcripts are the only option for alumni who attended the Law School prior to July 2005.

Transcripts are processed and mailed within two-business days of receipt of request. For requests in December-January and April-May, please allow up to five-business days.

Immediate service transcript requests received before 3pm CST are processed and mailed on the same day of receipt of request. Please call our office to confirm receipt of your request at 312.503.8464. Immediate service transcript requests received after 3pm CST will be processed the next business day.

Fees

Regular service requests are $10 per transcript.
Immediate service requests are $25 per transcript.

Mailing Options

USPS First Class is the default mailing option for paper transcripts.
FedEx is available at an additional charge:

$15 domestic
$30 international


Frequently Asked Questions

I attended multiple schools at Northwestern University*. Can I receive one transcript including everything?
You will need to place separate requests with each school for your record.
*JD-MBA and LLM-K grads from June 2003 forward - Law School transcripts include courses from the Law School and Kellogg. A separate transcript from Kellogg is not required.

May I request an unofficial transcript for personal use?
Unofficial transcripts are available only to current students through the self-service student portal in CAESAR.  Unfortunately, Northwestern University does not issue unofficial transcripts

How may I request a refund?
We are unable to issue refunds once the order has been submitted.

Can I get my transcript now and pay later?
Transcripts will not be issued in advance of payment.  

I have a hold on my student record or outstanding balance on my account. May I request an official transcript?
Transcript requests will not be processed for students with a transcript hold (or outstanding account balance) on their student record.  We are unable to release holds placed by other departments and encourage you to directly contact the office that placed the hold.
