Northwestern Law Alum, Paul Lemmens, Elected to the European Court of Human Rights

Northwestern Law alumnus, Paul Lemmens LLM ‘78, received the high honor of being elected as judge by an absolute majority to the European Court of Human Rights.
Lemmens currently serves as a judge at the Belgian Council of State and as a part-time professor of international human rights at KU Leuven in Belgium, where he is founder and director of the Faculty of Law’s Institute for Human Rights.
He was a visiting professor at Northwestern Law in 1999 and has since participated with the Center on International Human Rights faculty members David Scheffer and Stephen Sawyer as a panelist in several Transatlantic Dialogues concerning a variety of public international law issues.
His nine-year term of office with the Court will begin on September 13.
