Transgender Rights
This seminar examines the treatment of gender identity in the U.S. legal system, emphasizing historical and social construction of transgender and gender nonconforming identities and the regulation of them and protections based on such actual or perceived identities. This course will survey significant legal issues and cases involving transgender and nonbinary litigants exploring statutory criminalization and non-discrimination protections as well as constitutional jurisprudence and theory.
