Food Law and Policy Seminar

This seminar will explore a wide range of issues related to food law and policy. Our focus is the food system – a complex network involving the production, processing, transportation, and consumption of food. We will examine the local, state, and federal regulation of food, and sample policy topics from a broad array of health, environmental, moral, and social issues involving the contemporary food system. Possible topics include safety, fraud, labeling, food animal conditions and speech regulation, environmental impact, genetic engineering, protein alternatives, tax policy, and antibiotics. Students will read and view materials in preparation for weekly discussions and write short papers throughout the semester. There is no final paper and no final exam.
