Privacy Law and Regulation
This course examines the law of information privacy: an individual's ability to control their personal information. The course examines the philosophical roots of privacy and traces the history of American privacy law. We will review the major federal privacy statutes, the role of federal administrative agencies in regulating corporate privacy conduct, and the large gaps that remain in the protection of individual privacy rights. Particular attention will be paid to ongoing efforts to regulate emerging technologies. Evaluation will be based on a series of discussion board posts and a final exam.
