Legal Operations
Legal operations” (or legal ops) describes a set of business processes and activities designed to manage resources, maximize productivity, measure outcomes, and define the value of legal services provided by legal departments. Over the past ten years, legal operations has coalesced into a discrete strategic discipline, and today, the practice has become critical for optimizing the performance of a company’s legal function. This class will provide a description of legal operations, how it has transformed the way work is performed in-house, and explain why this field has become so crucial in the legal industry. We will look at best practices, the structure of legal departments, issues involving outside counsel, legal technology solutions, and how business and technical practices can be applied to improve the delivery of legal services.
