Depositions

Depositions are an integral part of any civil litigation practice. It is the means by which you gather evidence for your claim or defense directly from witnesses. In this course, you will learn how to take and defend depositions. The class will be led by United States District Judge Sunil Harjani, along with a group of outstanding adjunct professors with substantial litigation experience in Chicago. Each student will be assigned a role as attorney for the plaintiff or defendant. You will be taking or defending a portion of a deposition nearly every week in this class. This class will particularly benefit students contemplating a litigation practice after graduation. The course will consist of lectures and simulation exercises every week and you will work in teams with other students. Thus, attendance is mandatory, there will generally be no makeup exercises, but students will be permitted to drop their lowest grade from one simulation exercise.
