Rule of Law

The ideal of the “rule of law” - that government power must only be exercised pursuant to law - is widely accepted across the world and is memorialized in the U.S. Constitution in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. Yet scholars disagree about what the rule of law amounts to, and most governments fail to comply with it in serious ways. This seminar will wrestle with contemporary issues and controversies in both the theory and practice of the rule of law.
