Biography

 

Kim Kamin is a Principal at Gresham Partners, LLC, an independent multi-family office that currently serves about 100 ultra-high net worth families nationally. At Gresham, Ms. Kamin serves as Chief Wealth Strategist, leading Gresham’s development and implementation of estate, wealth transfer, philanthropic, educational and fiduciary planning activities. Previously she was a partner in the Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Group at Schiff Hardin LLP where for many years her legal practice involved all aspects of trust and estate planning, administration, dispute resolution; advising families and their privately held businesses on a wide array of wealth preservation, asset protection and succession planning issues; and serving as counsel for the formation and operation of not-for-profit entities.

 

Ms. Kamin co-authored and co-edited the Leimberg Library book, Estate Planning for Modern Families (3rd Edition 2019). She is also on the Editorial Advisory Board of Trusts & Estates Magazine and has posted as an author at http://wealthmanagement.com/author/kim-kamin.

 

Professional awards and recognitions include: an Illinois Under 40 To Watch by the Law Bulleting Publishing Company (2008), one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the practice areas of both Trusts and Estates, and Litigation – Trusts & Estates, U.S. News and World Report (2011-present), an Illinois Rising Star in Illinois Super Lawyers (2009-2011), a Super Lawyer in Illinois Super Lawyers (2012-2014), a Leading Lawyer in Trust, Will & Estate Planning Law with the Illinois Leading Lawyer Network (2010-2014), and being “AV Rated” by Martindale-Hubbell.

 

Ms. Kamin is a Fellow with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel where she co-chairs the Legal Education Committee. She also serves on the Chicago Estate Planning Council Board of Directors as Vice President, the Chicago Community Trust Professional Advisory Council, the Art Institute of Chicago Gift Planning Advisory Committee, the Northwestern Memorial Foundation Professional Council for Philanthropy, the Goodman Theatre Spotlight Advisory Council, the Chicago Foundation for Women Professional Advisory Council, and the Executive Committee for the Lurie Children’s Legacy Partners. She also serves on the Chicago Stanford Association’s Board of Leaders. She is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago, where she has served on several committees.

 

Ms. Kamin received her JD from the University of Chicago Law School. She has taught Estate Planning and Income Taxation of Trusts and Estates for our LLM in tax program and the Advanced Trusts and Estates Seminar for the Law School and was awarded the William M. Trumbull Lectureship in 2016. She is also on faculty for the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) program through the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Executive Education.
