Alexandra M. Franco

In 2018, Franco co-authored a brief of law alongside IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law professor Lori Andrews, for professors as amici curiae in support of the respondents in Frank v. Gaos United States Supreme Court case about the use of cy pres settlements in class action lawsuits. In 2021, Franco and Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC attorney John M. Fitzgerald published the Guide to the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, a book on the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act—the most comprehensive biometric privacy law in the country. Along with three other authors, Franco published “Virtual Clinical Trials: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back” in the Journal of Health Care Law & Policy (2017). Franco has written a number of law review articles focusing on performance-enhancing drug law, genetic engineering, and the doctrine of standing. Her teaching and research interests include legal writing, remedies, science and technology law and policy, and civil procedure.

Franco obtained her J.D. in 2016. She is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States and the Illinois State Bar. During law school, she was a judicial extern for Justice Stuart E. Palmer of the First District Illinois Appellate Court, a law clerk in the Office of Legal Affairs at Rush University Medical Center, and a law clerk at Regina P. Etherton and Associates.

Before law school Franco worked on numerous projects focusing on education, particularly in improving access to quality science education for Chicago’s minority and immigrant youth. She assisted in establishing a new health sciences–focused charter high school in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy. At the high school, she was the coordinator of the school’s tutoring and mentoring department, and her focus was on developing effective learning strategies to help students succeed in math and English. While she was pursuing her bachelor’s degree, she worked with Project Exploration, a non-for-profit organization in Chicago as an on-site coordinator, teaching and overseeing youth volunteer educators at the Field Museum of Natural History.

Franco graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Loyola University Chicago and obtained her high school diploma from Nicholas Senn High School, a Chicago public school. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, she arrived to the United States in 2003 as a refugee. She speaks Spanish and French, and her hobbies include bodybuilding, art, and video games.
