What’s Here

You’ll find details on the bulleted topics below, and the link to a survey with requested response by November 3rd

Institute Location, Schedule, and Registration

The Securities Regulation Institute will be held at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa located at 2000 Second Street, Coronado, CA 92118. View the online schedule. As a speaker, you are welcome to attend as much of the Institute as you would like and do not need to register for the Institute separately.

If your schedule does not allow for you to attend the full Institute, certain sessions will be available for on-demand viewing 30 days after the event concludes. We will supply the link and login to the on-demand platform at the conclusion of the Institute.

Speaker Dinner Information

Monday, January 22nd, 2024
Il Fornaio Coronado
Cocktails: 6:30-7 p.m.
Dinner: 7 p.m.

Speaker Bios and Photos

The Institute materials and marketing will contain a professional biography and headshot of each speaker. If you have recently spoken at one of our Institutes, the bio and photo we have on file have been emailed to you. If you are satisfied with them, you can indicate that via the survey below.

**Please note that we are limiting the length of each bio to 150 words, equivalent to one half page. If you have any questions, please reach out to Lorin Briese directly.**

New bios and photos can also be submitted via the survey. The sketch should be 150 words (approximately a half-page) in length and should describe career, public service, and educational highlights. Note that Northwestern Law may edit bios to ensure consistent form (e.g. capitalization, degrees earned) and length.

Hotel Accommodations and Travel Policy for General Speakers

We appreciate the time and effort you contribute to the Institute as well as your understanding of our travel expense guidelines. They allow us to provide a high-quality and affordable educational event.

Accommodations: The Institute has reserved a block of guest rooms for speakers at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa. The standard room charges of $279 per night + taxes and resort fee will be billed directly to Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Please note that the Institute will pay for up to three nights at the hotel for each speaker.

If you want a special room or room category we are happy to work with the hotel to secure the room, however, additional charges for the upgraded room will be your personal responsibility. Other charges such as movies, refreshments, and stays beyond three nights are also your responsibility.

Please indicate via the survey below whether you will need a room, the type of room you would like, and the date(s) you will be staying.

The hotel traditionally sells out for this event and it is important that we be made aware of your accommodation needs as soon as possible. Please do not book your own room; we will work with the hotel directly on behalf of all our speakers.

Meals: A special speaker breakfast room will be available each day. Lunches are provided each day of the Institute. The Institute also hosts a dinner for speakers and spouses/partners on Monday evening. The dinner is a wonderful time to relax and enjoy the company of your peers. You will be asked to RSVP to the speaker dinner closer to the Institute.

Other Expenses: Air travel, outside meals, car rental, and other transportation will not be reimbursed.

Written Materials

The Session Chair/Moderator will be responsible for providing written materials to Northwestern. All speakers are encouraged to contribute and should send materials to your Session Chair or Moderator.

Written materials for each session are required by most states in order to grant continuing legal education credits. They are important components of the program, and ones that our participants highly value during and beyond the event.

We require that each session has at least one document related to your topic and several documents are encouraged. Examples may include firm whitepapers, client briefs, original articles, or mass media that does not have copyright permissions (unless you have received prior permission).

Documents should be emailed to Lorin Briese by December 11th, 2023 to allow the Institute adequate time to produce a complete set of materials, and ensure yours are included. We provide each attendee, as well as speakers, a link to these documents prior to the start of the Institute. If you have questions about the type of documents that are appropriate please contact Shilpa Gokhale.

PowerPoint Presentations

Preparation and submission of PowerPoint presentations are the responsibility of the Session Chair/Moderator for panel sessions and the Primary Speaker for other session formats.

Presentations are not required. If your session chooses to use a PowerPoint presentation, Please use this PowerPoint template to ensure consistency. Any files should be emailed to Lorin Briese by December 11th, 2023.

PowerPoint files will be loaded onto our computer prior to the Institute. We cannot accommodate speakers’ laptops for presenting. Do not add any additional logos or firm identification.

Planning Call(s)

Your Session Chair/Moderator (if applicable) will schedule one or more planning calls prior to the Institute to discuss roles, responsibilities, and overall direction of the session.

Marketing Materials

40% of new attendees learn about the Institute from a colleague or friend, so we appreciate you spreading the word about your involvement via firm/company websites, blogs, and social media.

To help, we have created a Digital Marketing Kit (digital marketing kit pdf and social image) which includes suggested language, a social image as well as important links and hash tags. Please use this on your personal accounts and share with your business development and/or marketing team, if appropriate. Be sure to tag "@Northwestern Law Professional Education" so we can comment, like and share your posts. Please contact Mary Kathleen Natelson with any questions.

Also download the 2024 Institute Agenda and connect with us on LinkedIn.
